In order to pick up the vehicle, a DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) form attesting that you have submitted an application for a new driving licence must be presented.

In addition to the basic price of the car rental, are there any other costs?

There may be if you decide to sign up for an additional product that was not originally included in your reservation (additional excess reduction products, baby / child seat, GPS, etc.)

Can the car I rented be driven by anyone other than me?

No, on any reservation, only the person named in the rental agreement may drive the vehicle. However, if you want to include another driver, you can request the inclusion of an additional driver at the beginning of the rental. The presence of this driver at the location to present the required documents is mandatory. This service will have an additional cost of €5 per day (maximum of €40 per rental agreement).

Can I return the car later, after the time stated in the contract?

If you return the vehicle outside the expected period of the end of the contract, an additional daily rate will be charged based on our public rates (this amount also includes the additional value of all extras purchased at the beginning of the contract).
Please note that our contracts offer a 30-minute grace period. After this period has elapsed, an additional amount will be charged in 24-hour slots, according to our prevailing National Public Rates.

My contract includes several additional products. When I extend the contract, does the additional value only consist of the daily price of the car?

The extension of the contract presupposes its extension with respect to the rental of the vehicle as well as the services and conditions initially contracted. If you wish to change any of the contracted conditions or services, you will need to sign a new rental agreement, and to do so, go to any of our stations.

Can I chose a specific make or model of car in advance?

All bookings are made to a group of vehicles with several similar models. Therefore, within the selected group, the vehicle that is currently available at the station will be available. If you wish to rent a particular vehicle, you should confirm your preference during the reservation, so that in case of availability, such preference is considered.

Can the value of the excess be reduced to 0€?

Yes, in the case of subscription of additional products such as SCDW (Super Collision Damage Waiver) in conjunction with Additional Collision Damage Waiver (ACDW), the minimum deductible will be reduced to zero. However, a guarantee with a credit card up to a maximum of € 150 (Economic, Compact and Commercial) or 300 € (F1 / G1 / G2 / H /H1 / I / I1 / J / J1 / L) must be provided.

The SCDW values vary according to the group booked and can vary between € 10.00 and € 20.00 per day, up to 15 days for each rental agreement (30 days).
The TGL(Tyres, Glass, Locks) values vary according to the group booked and can vary between € 7.50 and € 12.00 per day, up to 15 days for each rental agreement (30 days). 

Limitations of liability do not apply in cases of violation of the rules of use of the vehicle, of wilful or negligent conduct, non-compliance with the Highway Code or whenever the situations generating responsibility occur when the Car is not driven by the Customer or by an Authorised Driver.

What payment methods are accepted by Local Cars?

The accepted payment methods are: credit card (Visa or Master Card). Check payments and cash are not accepted. A credit card is always required for deductible purposes

What is the minimum age for renting a car from Local Cars?

The minimum age for driving a Local Cars vehicle is 25 years. All drivers with a driving license for more than 1 year but under the age of 23 can drive a Local Cars vehicle for an additional fee. 

Can I use the vehicle outside Portugal?

Local Cars vehicles are not allowed to travel outside of Portugal without permission, If you need to travel abroad without acceptance of the Cross Border product, in the event of an accident or malfunction, the driver will be penalized in € 3.00 for each km traveled from the location to the closest Local Cars rental location. The same coverage accepted at the beginning of the rental remains in force.

How should I proceed if I decide to change / cancel and request a refund for my reservation?

How can I get a copy of my invoice?

You may request a copy of your invoice by sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. indicating the reservation, voucher or contract number.

How can I make a complaint?

You can present your complaint by email to the Customer Support department (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) who can analyse and clarify any issues.

I have made a reservation through the Local Cars online portal and I want to change its terms: I wish, for example, to add two days to the rental and / or to subscribe an extra product. How should I proceed?

If you need to change the terms of the reservation, you must cancel the reservation made online (through the website or reservation centre), at least 48 hours in advance, and the amount paid will be refunded. You must then make a new reservation with the changes you deem necessary and proceed with the payment.
Please be advised that, if cancellation is not made at the minimum time mentioned, the booking costs will be charged.

Do I gain any advantages by renting directly from Local Cars?

Yes, online rentals arranged directly via our website offer seasonal rates and special offers exclusive to this platform.

LOCAL CARS respects individual privacy, places a high value on the trust of its customers and partners, and takes its responsibilities with respect to data security very seriously.

Marketing

· If you are a Customer of ours, we will use your personal data to email you our news, such as new Local Cars products, new campaigns and new vehicles and services you may be interested in. We believe that we have a legitimate interest in sending this information, given that it will be similarly beneficial for you, improving your experience and providing access to information that we believe is very much in your interest.

· If you are not a Customer of ours, we will use your personal data to inform you of offers you may find of interest only where you have given us your express consent to do so, e.g. when you fill in a contact form and tick the relevant box.


·For these purposes, we may also analyse your user or customer profile, specifically by means of your browsing history and/or purchasing history, to determine your preferences and thus send you customised information.

· Should you sign up as a user of any application, reserved area or platform owned by LOCAL CARS, we will need to process your data to identify you as a user of those platforms and enable you to access the different features, products and services at the disposal of registered users.

· Verification and confirmation, in conjunction with credit bureaus or other sources, and storage of information regarding any incident resulting in a possible risk in relation to future contracts, in which case your data may also be passed to the Association of Companies for the Hire of Vehicles without a Driver, for inclusion in a database of defaulting customers, and passed to claim recovery companies in the event of any non-performance of the agreement concluded.

4) How do we keep your personal data safe, and for how long do we store your data?

 

We have implemented technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data from accidental or unlawful destruction, accidental loss, alteration, dissemination or unauthorised access.

The time limit for storage of your data will depend on the purposes for which they are processed, i.e. we process your data for the time strictly necessary to fulfil the corresponding purpose and we may subsequently store them, duly saved and protected, for the period of time in which responsibilities arising from their processing may arise, while observing prevailing law at all times.

With respect to our Marketing updates, please be informed of the following:

  • · If you have given your consent for Marketing purposes, your personal data will be retained for a maximum period of 24 months from receipt of your consent, or 60 months after acquiring a Local Cars product and/or service, provided that, during this period, you do not withdraw your consent;

Should you make any payment using one of the Local Cars platforms, your payment will be redirected to our payment management partner who will be duly identified at that time, this entity becoming the Data Controller in relation to your personal data for this specific purpose of paying for a product/service. Any operation involving choosing the means of payment to be used and entering the data inherent to the payment process is properly protected. The information concerned is encrypted and managed with the most advanced security tools currently available.

5) With whom do we share your personal data?

Your personal data are processed with the utmost confidentiality and are used solely and exclusively for the purposes identified.

Local Cars guarantees that it will never sell, loan or transfer your personal data to third parties without your express and explicit consent to this effect.

To guarantee proper processing of your requests and to guarantee you the best possible service, your personal data may be shared with our partners or service providers, e.g.:

  • · to manage the rental and business relationship, to communicate with you or to assist you during the rental;
  • · to store your data relating to any incident involving you in cases where, as a result of such incident, it is considered that there may be a risk for future rental agreements;
  • · for the purpose of carrying out satisfaction surveys;
  • · to send you marketing updates regarding similar products or services that EHI believes may be of interest to you, including targeted messages on the EHI and partner websites and on social networks, where you have given your explicit consent to this effect;
  • · to compile statistics and analyses of your use of EHI products and services, including statistics based on anonymised data, which enable EHI to offer you and other customers better services, products and features in the future;

EHI is responsible for processing data received under the principles of the Privacy Shield between the USA/EU. For further information regarding compliance with the data transfer rules, or if you have any questions in relation to the privacy or use of your personal data that have not been answered by EHI, the EHI Privacy Policy may be consulted for further information regarding how to resolve this issue.

If your personal data have to be shared with entities that are not located within the European Economic Area, Local Cars guarantees that they are required to comply with European legislation on the protection of personal data, namely through the conclusion of international data transfer agreements with standard contractual arrangements for that purpose.
